I'm not an expert painter, but I have done my own household painting for over ten years now. Before reading this book, I had never really put a whole lot of thought into color selection, other than I thought the color looked nice and would work well with the furniture, flooring, etc. I always knew that color preference was affected by personality and that color could have a profound effect on one's mood. I just never really applied this to painting my home with this in mind.What I love about this book is that it shows you how to find the colors that work best for you and the other people who live with you. This book takes you step by step through the process of finding paint colors that you love and that will best suit you. I just really thought about painting and the careful selection of colors in a whole new way after reading this book.

Short and easy review
This book doesn't even talk about shades of brown. It's nothing more than an ad for one paint company. Waste of time!
No great information to be had in this small booklet and it was a waste of my money.
Very little substance to this book. I was expecting more information on the art and science off creating color palettes.
very short, lots of this could have been found online. did not go into detail on subjects I needed. was okay
Very helpful! I couldn’t have possibly read this book at a more perfect time. I’m currently in the process of completely renovating my house for the first time ever and even though I overlooked it at first, I ended up finding myself stuck with the problem of choosing colors that flow well and compliment with our new floors and furniture.
So, all that being said and having now finished the read, I can definitely say that the book has taught me a lot and the advice has already proven to be useful (I experimented in one of my smaller rooms and it looks great so far). I look forward to finishing the rest of the house and seeing how it all comes together. Great book!
I have a small condo with big dreams – one of those is changing the boring taupe walls into something a bit more exciting, yet somehow soothing. This is a combination that is hard to fathom and even harder to manage. Enter Judith Paul’s “Guide to Select the Perfect Colors for Your Home 5 Extremely Easy Steps.” This Interior Designer offers up the tips and the expert advice in an easy to use and follow guide that actually answers some common questions instead of the more prevalent, “Well… what I would do..” mantra of some other design books.
After going through the guide and filling in the answers to the questions I have come to the conclusion that my condo CAN have both a soothing and an exciting theme – the bedrooms will be calmer, more in the blues or violet tones while the living room will splash a bit of vibrancy in warmer colors. Armed with this awareness and a solid grasp of the 60-30-10 rule, I am heading to the Home Improvement store soon to pick up some sample cans and swatches.
This guide is well written and straight forward. Like the title says, these steps are extremely easy – it helps take what can be a complicated decision and makes it obvious and approachable.
